01.07.18 The FP (10:00) and KS2 (13:00) Sports Days will both go ahead tomorrow. The forecast shows high temperatures, particularly in the afternoon so please ensure you send your child to school wearing sunscreen, in possession of a hat and a water bottle that can be re-filled throughout the day. In order to prevent pupils, staff and family members being exposed to the sun for prolonged periods it is likely that we will operate a reduced programme of races; this is however preferable to cancellation.

Tuesday 22nd May 2018

Dear Parents and Carers,

Yesterday I received notification from Estyn the Schools’ Inspectorate regarding our forthcoming inspection.

The school is due to be inspected from Monday 18th June – Thursday 21st June 2018.

Part of the inspection process involves parents supporting the school by completing questionnaires as well as attending a Parents’ Meeting that will be held at the school.

The questionnaire can either be completed as a hard copy, which is available on the Estyn website or online – for security reasons please see details in the email sent on Tuesday 22nd May 2018 giving details of how to access the questionnaire.

I would be very grateful if you could each take the time to complete the questionnaire as fully as possible to provide the inspection team with all relevant feedback to enable them to make valid judgements.

Please note the closing date for the completion of the Parent Questionnaire is Thursday 7th June 2018.

You can also click on the link to view the information the leaflet, “Understanding inspections in schools: a guide for parents and carers” - please click here

The Parents’ Meeting will be held on Monday 18th June 2018 from 15:45 – 16:45 in the school hall.  Supervision by members of the school staff will be provided for the children of the parents attending this meeting.

Yours sincerely,

Mrs Kate Guest

25.03.18 A few reminders for parents:

Wednesday 28th March our Foundation Phase Easter Concert 14.00. Parents/Carers/family members are welcome.

Thursday 29th March our Key Stage 2 Easter Concert 09.15. Parents/Carers/family members are welcome.

Thursday 29th March whole school breaks up for Easter and school will re-open on Monday 16th April.  Have a great time.

Following many years of teaching at Malpas Park and previously in the secondary sector, Mrs Jones will be retiring at the end of March; I am sure you will agree she has been an exceptional practitioner. She hopes to recover from her current virus sufficiently to return to school prior to her retirement but this is yet to be determined; provision for Year 3 will be uninterrupted if this is the case. Moving forward Mrs Williams will continue to teach Y3 and Mrs Winnel will teach Y1.
Mrs Guest

The school's Eisteddfod will go ahead on Friday 9th March but given that parents will have probably needed to request time off from work due to the school being closed last Thursday and Friday, we have cancelled the Open Sessions that were scheduled last Thursday.  We plan to celebrate World Book Day on Thursday 8th March.  If you would like to send your child in dressed as their favourite character from a book that would be great; if this is not the case then school uniform must be worn.

Reminder that Parental Consultations are being held this week after school up to and including Thursday 8th March and we look forward to seeing you. I am available in my office each evening up until 19:00. If you have not yet made an appointment please see your child's Class Teacher tomorrow. Mrs Guest

If you made an appointment to see your child's Class Teacher this evening but did not attend please re-schedule by the end of Thursday 8th March. It is important that consultations take place within this time-frame.  Thank you! Mrs Guest

28.02.18 Parent/Carer open session this morning for year 5 and year 6 only.  Starts at 09:30.  All other classes are tomorrow Thursday 1st March.  Thank you.

24.02.18 School re-opens on Monday usual times.

This week is Welsh week and children are encouraged to wear national costume or rugby/football jerseys on Thursday and Friday only.  Our Eistedfodd will be held on Friday.

Parents/carers are invited to open sessions for all classes on Thursday 1st March except for Y5 and Y6 with parents/carers invited to an open session on Wednesday 28th February.

IMPORTANT Parents'/Carers' Survey

As a school we are keen to get parents'/carers' views on many aspects of the school and school life.  As a parent/carer you are requested to complete the survey which is available from today until midday on Friday 23rd February.  This survey is different to the one below and to access it simply click on Parents in the green left hand column and then follow the link from that page.

08.02.18 We, as a school, are working on a Health and Wellbeing Project with a company called Physagogy.  Below is a link to a short Parents' Survey which we would be grateful if you would complete.  It asks for your views on your engagement levels with MPPS.

The information is confidential and secure and the form ios completely anonymous.

Thank you in advance.

17.01.18 Have you signed up and downloaded our new app Schoop? No cost, only takes approx 4.5mb of memory and all info is stored in "cloud" so no memory used.  Please see information below. #gommps

Dear Parents and Carers,

Malpas Park Primary School is very pleased to announce that we have adopted a new app for schools called Schoop.

Schoop will improve the way we communicate with you and our school community however the school website will still be operational and up to date.  The Class Dojo app will, for the time being, continue to be used at the discretion of each individual teacher.

It is really important that you sign up to Schoop using your preferred device to prevent the risk of missing important notifications, updates, reminders and letters.  Schoop will send you information not just from me and Mrs Kindred but also your child’s Class Teacher.

For instructions on how to access Schoop please CLICK HERE to a pdf information file.

Yours sincerely,

Kate Guest

Food Bank Top-up!

Dear Parents and Carers.

As you are all aware the introduction of our Food Bank in December 2016 has proved highly valuable for a small number of our families and others in the community.

Financial challenges for some are present all year round but never more so than at Christmas time.  The children are engaged in conversations about ‘real life’ issues such as this as part of their learning in order to develop their skills of empathy and citizenship and the older children are again particularly keen to be proactive in helping and supporting the whole school and wider community.

We have items in our Food Bank currently but it could do with a bit of a ‘top-up’ as we approach the Christmas break.

Therefore, if you would like to contribute please send in small, affordable donations of items from the table below as and when you are able for your child to deposit in the Food Bank.

Tinned Vegetables

Tinned Fruit

Tinned Custard

Tinned Puddings

Powdered or Long-life Milk

Pasta Sauces

Tinned Pies

Tinned Meat

Instant Mashed Potato

Long-life Fruit Juices

Dried Pasta/Rice

Tinned Fish

Christmas Fare

Many thanks in anticipation of your support.

Yours sincerely,

Kate Guest
