History and Context of the School

Malpas Park Primary School is situated on the outskirts of Newport and has the capacity to provide education for 210 pupils aged 4-11.  There are currently 178 pupils on roll.

The school serves a densely populated area in the Malpas ward, north-west of the city. Pupils are drawn from a wide area, many from out of catchment, and are neither prosperous nor economically disadvantaged.

There are currently three Foundation Phase classes and four Key Stage 2 classes.

Malpas Park Primary School has extensive grounds which serve the pupils outdoor education and enhance the teaching of both Foundation Phase and Key Stage 2 curriculum.  The school has excellent resources and accommodation, especially in the context of it being an older school built in the 1960s. Staff and pupils within the school use all areas of the building to its full potential.

Malpas Park Primary School opened in 1966 in order to serve the Malpas Park private estate erected on the eastern side of Malpas Road. The social mix of pupils at that time was very different from that of today.

The school has achieved the fourth Basic Skills Quality Mark, the second leaf of the Healthy Schools Award, the Gold Green Flag and has the ASD Friendly Accreditation.
