ESTYN Report 2014

Dear Parents,

As of today you will find our most recent inspection report within the ‘School’ section of our website under the sub-heading ‘Estyn’ which is the educational inspectorate for Wales.

We are delighted with the report and recognise the part so many have played in making Malpas Park Primary such a success.

A paper copy is available from the school office upon request.

You will notice in the report that the school has been awarded ‘adequate’ for wellbeing.  The Governing Body have asked that as our parents you are made aware that due to our attendance figure being 93.8% at the end of the last academic year we were placed in the third quartile compared with like-school across Wales.  Due to this Estyn are not permitted to award us a higher grading than ‘adequate’ despite finding the provision and monitoring of pupil wellbeing within and across the school as a very strong feature.

As you can appreciate we find this most frustrating in what is otherwise a very positive report, but I am pleased to inform you that improving attendance has been a priority throughout this last year and our current figure is just above 95% which is extremely good and exceeds our target for improvement.

I would like to close by thanking all of you for your support throughout the entire inspection process.  Within this I include the completion of the parent surveys, attendance at the meeting with the inspection team on May 12th and for ensuring that the children were punctual each morning.  They were an absolute credit to you as their parents and you will notice from the report that their behaviour, care and support towards one another was highly recognised.

Yours sincerely,

  Kate Guest
